Curriculum Vitae

Bruno Aiazzi was born in 1961. He received the Laurea degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Florence, Florence, in 1991, by discussing the Thesis “A comparison among digital image compression methods concerning the estimation of visual quality”.

After a period invested as a Research Assistant in the Institute of Research on the Electromagnetic Waves of the National Research Council of Italy (IROE-CNR), since 2001 he has been a Researcher with the CNR Institute of Applied Physics “Nello Carrara” (IFAC-CNR), now part of the CNR Florence Research Area, Sesto Fiorentino, Florence. He has been working on several international research projects funded by the main European space agencies (ASI, ESA, CNES) on a number of remote sensing research topics: image quality definition and measurement, with applications to advanced hyperspectral sensors, adaptive methods for lossless and near-lossless data compression in satellite scenarios, multispectral and hyperspectral pansharpening algorithms, automatic estimation of multitemporal changes especially devoted to environmental recognition, and theoretical definition of statistic-based features for classification purposes. He is the coauthor of about fifty papers published in international peer-reviewed journals, nine chapters in scientific books, one tutorial book, and more than one hundred contributions in International Conference Proceedings. He is a reviewer of several international journals in the signal processing field. Since 2011 he has become Senior Researcher in the IFAC CNR Institute. He is Member of IEEE, CNIT (National Consortium for Telecommunications composed by several universities over the Italian territory) and GTTI (National Telecommunications and Information Theory Group, an association of teachers and researchers of Italian universities and companies that operate in the area of ICT, the Information and Communication Technologies). He is a coauthor of the tutorial book on advanced image fusion techniques named “Remote Sensing Image Fusion”, which has been published in 2015 by CRC Press.

Dr. Aiazzi received the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society Certificate of Appreciation as the winner of the 2006 Data Fusion Contest, Fusion on Multispectral and Panchromatic Images, from the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society’s Data Fusion Technical Committee.
